Palm Print Dress in WaterColor Florida

3

Sadly, our family vacation to WaterColor, Florida, is over but I still wanted to share this Palm Print Dress I wore on our trip to the beach.

Palm prints have been so popular again this summer and when I found this shift dress with a price tag of only $30, I had to throw my “around the world trip budget” momentarily out the window to be a part of the tropical trend.

WaterColor, Florida, continues to be one of my favorite spots to vacation each year and the coastal community located adjacent to Seaside, Florida, never disappoints.

The vibe is family-friendly, laid back and just plain ‘easy-living.’ Per The Seaside Style store, it is a place where “bare feet and sandy floors rule.”

Even though you could survive on swimsuits and coverups in this beach town, I prefer to throw on a summer sundress for an evening out for cocktails or dinner – even if that means I ride my bike in a dress!

Speaking of bikes, we rented ours from Salt Air 30A for the first time this year and I couldn’t have been happier with our choice. The bikes were delivered on time, high-quality and just plain adorable with their teal, orange and blue color scheme. I highly recommend renting from them!

I’m already looking forward to our trip back next year and maybe you are too! Check out my 30A Travel Blend to see all of my favorite spots to stay and play in WaterColor, Seaside, Rosemary Beach and Alys Beach.

Lilly Pulitzer Blythe Dress and Monogrammed Straw Clutch

0

What’s more perfect than a Lilly Pulitzer Blythe Dress and Monogrammed Straw Clutch for a bright, colorful look at the beach? Not much in my opinion!

I’ve always been a fan of the bold prints from Lilly, but never owned one of her iconic dresses. So after a rain-soaked afternoon hiding indoors, I purchased my first Lilly dress at Barefoot Princess in WaterColor in a fun, fresh ‘light as a feather’ pattern.

The swing shape of the cotton v-neck dress provides a loose, laid back look perfect for an evening at the WaterColor wine bar with my mom and Michael. And this dress is more affordable than most Lilly dresses – at only $98, you can have the “Lilly look for less”!

Sizing tip: order down a size or two. For reference, I am wearing an XXS and am 5’1″. I normally wear an XS or S in dresses.

Besides my luggage, I only packed two bags with me for vacation – my beach bag and my brand new Monogrammed Straw Clutch from Lindroth Design. To say I am obsessed with this clutch is an understatement.

Painted with bright pink and white stripes and featuring my monogram ‘CCM’, I have carried this bag with me everywhere. It is large enough to hold all of my essentials – my iPhone, small wallet, sunglasses and case, lipstick and lipliner – and looks cute during the day or night.

You can choose from 21 different colors for the stripes and monogram hand-painted on the bag and they only take about 3-5 business days to create. Lindroth Design also offers beach bags and small straw handle bags with the same iconic stripes and monograms. I’ll be adding the Lyford Bag to my wish list!

Make sure to follow me on Instagram to see more of my vacation fun! It’s been raining non-stop but we’re making the most of it!

Chambray Off the Shoulder Dress

2

Today marks the first day that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is open to everyone and this Chambray Off the Shoulder Dress is one of my favorite purchases!

Priced at only $31.90 (normally $48), this off-the shoulder dress is so versatile – it can be worn as a dress for a date night or or even as a coverup when heading to a beachside restaurant. The light blue hue also makes this summer dress appropriate for celebrating the arrival of a baby boy.

I’ve paired the chambray dress with my new Oliver Peoples Sunglasses, light pink earrings and my favorite Jack Rogers flat sandals to keep the look a little more casual. But, the length is long enough that I would also wear it with a suede lace up sandal to transition into fall.

Curious about sizing? I’m wearing a small (I’m 5’1″) and probably could have sized down to an XS. Also, the dress is lined so need to worry about your undergarments peeking through!

Want to shop all of my favorites from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale? Just click here or here! The deals and sizes are going fast so make sure to shop early and often! Pricing goes back up August 7th.

Floral Shift Dress

I’ve been on the go the past couple weeks (and Michael was in Nepal) so sadly I haven’t been able to share as much as I wanted to with you! I traveled to St. Louis to visit my family, attend a football game at Mizzou and even go to my high school reunion dressed in this Floral Shift Dress and Booties.

High school in St. Louis is a very BIG thing and when meeting a fellow St. Louisian, the conversation always begins with, “Where did you high school?”

As a proud alumni of St. Joseph’s Academy, I spent four years of my life forming some of the most amazing friendships and ones that I’ll have for life. So at the reunion, we spent the night walking the hallways of our old school, reminiscing over the antics we got ourselves into and just plain catching it — it was perfect.

What to Wear to a Black Tie Wedding

0

Earlier this week, I shared my guide for what to wear to a Cocktail Attire Wedding and Black Tie Optional Wedding. Now is the time for the pièce de résistance – What to Wear to a Black Tie wedding.

A Black Tie fête may not happen that often, but you better be ready when they do with a knockout gown and jewels to match.

What to Wear to a Black Tie Wedding:

For men, this means a tuxedo. The most common style today is a notch lapel (think standard suit) with satin on both the lapel and piped down the sides of the pant.

To stand apart, a classic peak lapel (wider at the top with a winged tip) looks great on guys with broad shoulders or a shawl collar (what Michael chose) is a great option for a slim physique.

I’m a sucker for the traditional look, but mixing it up with midnight blue or a textured jacket can be a great way to bring your personality into view. Regardless of whether you opt for the standard bow tie (self-tie is best) or long necktie, don’t forget the details: cufflinks and tuxedo studs, and complimenting pocket squares make you look polished.

For women, this normally means a long, elegant dress with heels, beautiful jewels and a statement clutch.

The season and venue will help guide your choice. A winter ballroom wedding might lead you to heavier fabrics and darker colors whereas a spring wedding with alfresco cocktails might call for lighter fabrics and brighter colors.

I chose this stunning, chiffon nha khahn dress from Rent the Runway because of the cascading shape that effortlessly floats over the dance floor and muted floral pattern that provides added intrigue.

This is your chance to glam it up! Dramatic earrings in complimenting tones and a statement clutch are a great way to accessorize your look and set yourself apart from the crowd.

A huge thank you to the talented Jennifer Kathryn Photography for taking all of these stunning photos at the Chicago History Museum and to Rent the Runway for collaborating with me on this 3-part series.

I hope you had as much fun as I did and are confident when outfit planning for your next wedding!

What to Wear to a Black Tie Optional Wedding

If a wedding invitation specifies Black Tie optional, then it is time to bring on the glitz and glamour!

Elevated from a cocktail attire wedding, black tie optional insinuates that the event is super fancy and your attire should follow suit.

Part 2: What to Wear to a Black Tie Optional Wedding

For men, this means a tuxedo or a dark suit and tie. For women, this means a long dress or a really dressy tea-length or short dress with heels, dramatic jewelry and hair.

A tri-fecta of lace, beading and tulle makes this Reem Acra tea-length dress from Rent the Runway perfect for a Black Tie Optional attire. Pair this gown with a statement shoe and silver cluster earrings and you’ll be a total knockout.

Besides my wedding dress, I have never felt so glam in my whole life. I just wanted to twirl and dance the night away.

What to Wear to a Cocktail Wedding

8

Fall is quickly becoming the height of wedding season and if hand-calligraphed envelopes have graced your mailbox, you’ve already started stressing about what to wear to each fête.

“Dressing the part” is a key element to being a great wedding guest and it’s important to properly coordinate your attire to the host’s specified dress code.

But don’t stress! I’m going to teach you ladies (and men) what to wear to a black tie, black tie optional and cocktail wedding in a three-part series with Rent the Runway starting right now!

Part 1: What to Wear to a Cocktail Wedding

If a wedding invitation does not specify black tie, black tie optional or a “location-specific” attire like beach casual, it is safe to assume the dress code is ‘cocktail.’

For men, this means a dark suit and tie. For women, this means a short, party dress with heels and jewels.

Easy, right? Sure…but if you’re like me then you’ll want a new party dress for each and every wedding which can be a costly endeavor.

Cue Rent the Runway offering thousands of dresses, jewels and bags for a flawless look from head-to-toe at a fraction of the cost. You can rent items from 4 to 8 days, get a backup size and even have them delivered straight to your door.

Ladies living in Chicago, New York, D.C. or Vegas also have the opportunity to visit showrooms in their respective city to try on dresses prior to renting. In Chicago, make sure to ask for Asia who helped select my looks for this series and has some killer style!

Denim Pencil Skirt

0

What’s old is new again…and denim skirts are baaccckk! 90’s style, button up versions are totally on trend but I am more into sleek sophisticated versions that can easily be worn to work.

From 9-to-5, pair this $60 denim pencil skirt with a gingham button-down shirt tucked in and nude heels. Then after work, untuck your top, tie it up in a knot for a playful, flirty look and add a red lip.

The material of the skirt is super stretchy but does not lose its shape, has a back slit making it possible to actually walk into work and there are pockets to stash your lipstick for reapplying. All in all, a plus for working gals!
