Beach Bags

If you are like me, the winter blues have fully taken over your mood and you are in desperate need for a spring break getaway to warmer temperatures. Thankfully, my friends realized this and decided to say their “I Do’s” this weekend in Florida. So, we are heading to 80-degree weather and let’s just say, I am a touch excited.

Since I have a hard time “under-packing”, my beach bag has to carry a lot of things – a beach towel, book, magazine, hat, sunscreen, and camera. Plus, I like when it can double as a carry-on bag for travel.

These nine beach bags are both stylish and functional, plus how cute are the pom poms on the Mar Y Sol totes?

DIY Tassel Bracelet

I’ve been seeing adorable, colorful tassel bracelets all over my LIKEtoKNOW.it feed and think they are the perfect poolside accessory. So instead of purchasing a bracelet from Etsy (which there are a ton of cute ones), I wanted to make them myself. Sometimes it just feels good to create, don’t you agree?

The supplies are minimal, the skill level is super easy and the project only took about 15 minutes per bracelet. Here’s everything you need and how to make your own DIY tassel bracelet.

Stretch Magic – I used .7 mm width
Tassels – Find them here or here
Gold Thread (if your tassels don’t have gold wrapped around them)
Wood Beads – 12- 18 per bracelet, 54 per necklace
Colored Beads – Hot Pink, Neon Green,  and Electric Blue – 12 – 18 per bracelet, 54 per necklace
Super glue – To secure the knot

1. Purchase supplies.

2. If wanted, wrap gold thread 1/8″ from the top of the tassel around about twenty times. Tie in a knot and trim ends.

3. Wrap Stretch Magic cording around wrist to determine the length of your bracelet. Trim.

4. String tassel on the center of cording.

5. Place one wood bead on each side of the tassel.

6. Place one colored bead on each side of the wooden bead.

7. Repeat steps 5-6 again and again until your bracelet is full. As a reference, I used 12 wood beads and 12 colored beads per bracelet.

8. Stretch cording a couple times before tying.

9. Tie ends of cording in a few knots.

10. Dab clear super glue on the ends to secure the knot.

11. Trim ends of cording and viola, a new bracelet!

20 Ways to be Pretty in Pink

Since pink is one of THE shades of the spring season (and you may have noticed I am obsessed), I’ve rounded up 20 ways to incorporate this pretty pastel into your wardrobe, accessories and jewelry this spring.

In order to keep this look sophisticated, I suggest pairing your pink-hued items with white, tan, denim or even black for a tougher look. Yesterday, I paired two shades of blush with denim and am just waiting for the temperatures to rise a bit to shoot some of the other pieces I recently purchased.

Kendra Scott’s Avant Garden

Kendra Scott launched her new Avant Garden Spring jewelry collection and it so, so gorgeous. The colors are so soft which is departure from the bold shades normally featured in her collection. I have long been a fan of her pieces and am sharing my top picks from her new line below.

If I had to choose my favorite, it would be the Billie Ear Climbers. This shape is a little rocker, something totally different and are already sold out on the Kendra Scott website but I found them at Nordstrom.

Are you a Kendra Scott fan? What is your favorite piece?

Sterling Statement Earrings, Billie Ear Climbers,  Alex Earrings in Mint, Isla Necklace in Rose Quartz, Kaki Baguette in Blue Lace Agate, Kiki Necklace in Mint, Haylee Ring,  Abra Double Band in Rose Gold, Tessa Stud in Blue Lace Agate, Katie Statement Earrings in Rose Quartz, Hanna Bracelet

Gold & White Sneakers

Valentine’s Day came a little early for me…in the form of these gold and white New Balance sneakers from Michael. I had been eyeing of pair of 620’s as a casual shoe option and when these gold babies came out, I was sold. Paired with white skinny pants and a white sweater, I call this chic casual – ha, is that even a thing?

How to Layer for Winter

Ok winter, let’s get a move on out…I am sick of all of my coats, gloves, and hats. So, I am going to layer my pieces in a different way to keep warm until Spring arrives in Chicago with this denim jacket, chambray shirt, and army green vest (old but similar here). Plus, a visit to Warby Parker with my mom over the weekend inspired me to dust off my glasses for this look.

Denim Jacket, Chambray Shirt, Army Green Vest (old similar here), Rebecca Minkoff Bag, Warby Parker Glasses, Black Pants, Splendid Booties, Lily Dawson Necklace, MAC Red Lipstick

Navy & White Stripe Sweater

I purchased this navy and white stripe sweater for a trip to Florida that sadly, I had to cancel. But warmer temperatures in Chicago (30 degrees instead of 3) this past weekend allowed me to wear it under a navy blazer to my nephew’s 2nd birthday party.

Along with the shape of the hem, the length is perfect to pair with skinny jeans or white pants. It is also super lightweight so I will be wearing it as a swimsuit coverup when I finally head to Florida in a month for a wedding!

What I’m Reading

I just started reading The Woman I Wanted to Be by Diane Von Furstenberg and I am hooked. Even though I am only 50 pages in, I am already astonished by the wealth of knowledge and inspiration she provides to women.

Sheepishly, I admit that I watched House of DVF and although the drama between the contestants was slightly entertaining; DVF was the real one to watch. She runs her company with such poise and has created a brand that is 100% her which is something I think most small business owners aspire to attain.

In the first chapter “Roots”, DVF discusses how her mother taught her to “transform what’s bad into something good” and says, “How could you possibly better yourself if you didn’t face your challenges up front or if you laid your problems off on someone or something else and didn’t learn from them? I offer that lesson often in my talks to young women. ‘Don’t blame your parents, don’t blame your boyfriend, don’t blame the weather. Accept the reality, embrace the challenge, and deal with it. Be in charge of your own life. Turn negatives into positives and be proud to be a woman.’”

Wow, what a statement and this was in the first chapter! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the book holds. I’d love to hear if you are a DVF fan or read this book too?!

Navy Color Inspiration

Navy and I are having a moment – in fashion and home decor. It is crisp, classic and timeless.

Plus, it looks so chic with stripes – one of my favorite patterns. Here are a few items that I’ve got my eye on for spring and beyond.
