Striped Off the Shoulder Dress and Boater Hat

With temperatures hovering in the 90’s over the weekend, this Striped Off the Shoulder Dress and Boater Hat kept me cool and chic for a summer Saturday full of fun.

After a morning walk through the Gold Coast for a latte from BowTruss and a quick dip in the pool, we headed out meet a group of friends for lunch in the blazing heat so I needed something to keep cool for a long afternoon.

This $29.99 striped dress is the newest addition to my off the shoulder dress collection and I’m happy to have it in the crew. It is lightweight and the elastic waist gives the dress some definition. I paired it with a straw boater hat and my gold Birks which I pretty much wear non-stop.

The dress runs a little bit small, so order one size up if you prefer the length of your dresses to be longer. The dress description also states that the stripes are black, but they look navy blue to me!

And since we’re talking clothes,  remember to see my picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I’ve added some really cool Home items so make sure to check it out!

Chambray Off the Shoulder Dress

Today marks the first day that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is open to everyone and this Chambray Off the Shoulder Dress is one of my favorite purchases!

Priced at only $31.90 (normally $48), this off-the shoulder dress is so versatile – it can be worn as a dress for a date night or or even as a coverup when heading to a beachside restaurant. The light blue hue also makes this summer dress appropriate for celebrating the arrival of a baby boy.

I’ve paired the chambray dress with my new Oliver Peoples Sunglasses, light pink earrings and my favorite Jack Rogers flat sandals to keep the look a little more casual. But, the length is long enough that I would also wear it with a suede lace up sandal to transition into fall.

Curious about sizing? I’m wearing a small (I’m 5’1″) and probably could have sized down to an XS. Also, the dress is lined so need to worry about your undergarments peeking through!

Want to shop all of my favorites from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale? Just click here or here! The deals and sizes are going fast so make sure to shop early and often! Pricing goes back up August 7th.

Black and White Tile Bathroom Floors

In most cases, bathrooms are a relatively small space in one’s home which allow for a big design statement like black and white tile bathroom floors. And if you’ve been following me on Pinterest, then you know I love this trend.

I’ve always been a big fan of black and white and big patterns, so this combination is right up my alley. Plus, there are so many different tile styles to match the look and feel of your home.

How to get the look:

  • If your home has a vintage feel, then use these retro black and white hexagonal tiles
  • If your home has a boho feel, then use these moroccan-inspired black and white tiles
  • If your home has a modern feel, then use these graphic circle pattern tiles

Best Products for Fine Hair

Unfortunately, I did not win in the hair gene pool and have been trying for years to find the best products for fine hair. I’ve spent more money on than I care to admit on lotions and potions promising to amp up my locks, but I am happy to report that I’ve finally found six products that I can’t live without.

Best Products for Fine Hair

  • Living proof full shampoo – A sulfate-free daily shampoo formulated specifically to care for flat, lifeless hair.
  • Living proof full conditioner – An oil-free, silicone-free conditioner formulated specifically to care for fine, thin or lifeless hair.
  • Bumble & bumble All-Style Blow Dry – Use a dime size amount to protect and prep your hair for blowing drying.
  • Kenra Volume Mousse – Apply a dollop at the roots for a non-sticky root-booster before blow drying your hair.
  • Moroccanoil Treatment Light – I always thought oil would weigh down my hair but the ‘Light‘ version of this treatment tames flyaways while keeping the volume. Plus, it smells a-mazing.
  • Kevin Murphy Dry Shampoo – For days that I don’t wash my hair (which is pretty infrequent), this dry shampoo gives my hair a much-needed lift.

The products I recommended do cost more than drugstore brands but after years of working at a hair salon in college, I believe in the power of professional products.

If you want to get great results, I think it is worth it to spend a little bit more money. Just make sure your family members aren’t using them too!

What to Do on 30A, 30A Travel Guide

There is something about travel that gets me so excited. I love to research my destination, plan my top spots and anticipate the trip for weeks to come. Which is why I launched my new Travel Blend series! Last week, I shared my Charleston Travel Guide and this week I am sharing the 30A Travel Guide and what to do on 30A.

30A is a small stretch of beaches and beach towns located on the Panhandle of Northwest Florida in between Panama City and Destin. Each town has a unique vibe with a ton of family-friendly activities – both indoor and outdoor.

I have been fortunate to visit the area for the past three summers and look forward to my time by the ocean for the entire year. 29 days and counting!

How to get there? Fly into the Northwest Florida Regional Airport (ECP) via Southwest, Delta or United and then rent a car or book a shuttle for the 25-30 minute trip to 30A.

30A Travel Blend (What to Do on 30A)

For the past three years, my family has stayed in WaterColor – a community known for it’s large, colorful homes and natural, coastal vibe – located directly next to Seaside (which you may recognize from The Truman Show).

Since we have a big group, we rent a beach home through VRBO or 360 Blue. Last year, we stayed in this beautiful, spacious home that was centrally located and even had a plunge pool on the back patio.

If you are traveling as a couple or smaller group, the WaterColor Inn & Resort is a wonderful option. Situated next to the ocean and the Beach Club (or adults only pool which is amazing), this is the perfect location to enjoy all of the town’s amenities. You are a quick bike ride or walk to Seaside Square.

Staying further west on 30A? Check into The Pearl in Rosemary Beach for a luxe, stylish stay steps away from shops, restaurants and the beach.

Great Southern Café is a staple to the Seaside community and a must for any vacationers. If the line is too long, walk to the Seaside market for waffles and a large iced tea; drive to Rosemary Beach for the breakfast tacos at Cowgirl Kitchen or grab donuts from Charlie’s Donuts food truck parked in Alys Beach (get there early as they sell out!).

Last year, I headed from the airport straight to George’s in Alys Beach per a recommendation from my friend Rachel and you should do the same. Sit on the large, umbrella-covered patio and order the Watermelon Tuna Poke and the Dab Salad, a dab of each of their daily chalkboard salads.

Also try a lobster roll from Shrimp Shack, pizza from Bud & Alley’s, tacos and margaritas from the Taco Stand, a burger from Pickles and a visit to the food trucks for a grilled cheese from the Melt Down and BBQ from Barefoot Bar-b-que – all located in Seaside.

If you prefer to eat at home, visit the WaterColor Farmer’s Market on Sundays and buy as many crab cakes as you can. They sell out so make sure to arrive early.

Afternoon Snack:

Since days are spent mostly in the sun, a cold treat will provide you with a relief from the heat. Downtown Seaside offers plenty of options based on your flavor profile – a sno-cone from Frost Bites food truck, ice cream from Heavenly Shortcakes, or a healthy dessert from Raw & Juicy.

Walk to Bud & Alley’s for a casual, beachfront bar serving up cold beers and cocktails alongside amazing sunset views. Oenophiles may prefer the Wine Bar at Wine World in WaterColor or Havana located atop The Pearl in Rosemary Beach.

Sit poolside at Caliza in Alys Beach and enjoy delicious “Queen Bee” cocktails, an extensive wine list and contemporary American fare. Open Tuesday through Saturday, this restaurant is perfect for a date night without the little ones.

Looking for a family-friendly option? I recommend The HUB, located in Watersound, which offers an open-air dining experience featuring Crave Roadside Burgers, Mile 15 (tacos & tequila) and Red’s Chicken Shack.

Everyone can get what they want and there is plenty of parking. Plus, they have live entertainment!

Wake up early for a sunrise walk on the beach, then grab an iced coffee at Amavida Coffee. Not a coffee drinker? Head across the street to the Raw & Juicy food truck for your daily dose of fruits and vegetables.

Even though the white, sandy beaches of 30A are the number one reason why people keep flocking to the area each year, there are many other activities to keep you busy in case you tire of the salt air. Sounds crazy, I know but it can happen.

Biking is the preferred method of transportation on 30A and is the fastest way to get from your house to the beach to the pool and to Seaside Square. Bike rentals are available through Salt Air 30A and Big Daddy Bikes and even include delivery and a bike basket — which I always opt for.

Want to burn a few more calories? Ride over to The Boathouse, located just off WaterColor Way, where they offer SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board), a RUN/SUP class, and YOGA/SUP class along with kayaking, canoeing and more.

Want to burn a few less calories? Take a 1.5 hour sunset cruise on Lake Powell with Motorboatin’ 30A and make sure to stock your cooler with rosé and snacks!

When you need to cool off from the sun and beach, retail therapy is just the ticket. I was having trouble picking just one shop to recommend, so I didn’t!

Here are my favorite 30A shops starting from the “top” of 30A and moving down.

  • The Shops at Grayton Beach – Summer House Lifestyle for home decor and beach chic wares
  • WaterColor – Barefoot Princess for Lilly Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines attire, the WaterColor Store for resort-themed gifts and Little Red for children’s clothing
  • Seaside – The Seaside Style for beach-chic accessories and Seaside-themed gifts, The Art of Simple for gifts and home decor, Ophelia Swimwear for L-Space and Mara Hoffman swimsuits and coverups, Mason for southern and gentleman-style including Krewe sunglasses which Michael had is eye on, Raw & Juicy for natural and organic beauty and home products ( (I am obsessed with this After Sun Spray I purchased), Snap for tween clothing and accessories and Duckies for toys (my niece saves her money all year for this!)
  • Alys Beach – Alys Shoppe is a modern boutique for your chic beach needs.
  • Rosemary Beach – Willow Boutique (also one in Seaside) for Calypso, Tory Burch, Joie and more designers and Pish Posh Patchouli’s for beauty, fragrances, hair products like Mermaid Hair and travel sizes which I think is genius for a vacation community.

Try this 30A Travel Blend for a mix of beach days, family fun in the sun, and a summer vacation you will never forget!

And as always, please let me know if you have any favorites to add to my list for What to do on 30A!

Lazy summer days lounging by the pool or relaxing oceanside can quickly turn into casual dinners. How do you move from beach to café without a pitstop at home?

Enter my favorite new clothing staple: summer coverups that double as dresses. Being able to transition from day to night with ease is what summer style is all about.

Best Mani-Pedi Nail Polish Color Combos

Growing up, my uncle schooled me on the importance of a firm handshake and clean nails. I took that advice to heart and believe a fresh manicure and polished toes aid in keeping a professional, well-groomed look.

I’m sure that’s why one of my favorite pick-me-up activities is a trip to the nail salon for a manicure and pedicure, but sometimes relaxation can turn to stress when trying to find the best mani-pedi nail polish color combos.

My favorite mani-pedi color combos combine complimentary colors in beautiful shades like baby blue and cornflower or when I am feeling a bit wild, I choose two contrasting shades like mint and hot pink for a bold look.

Feeling a bit indecisive yourself? Try out one of my suggestions for the best mani-pedi nail polish color combos.

Blue Kitchen Cabinets

Every time I log into Pinterest or flip through a home decor magazine, I fall in love with images of blue kitchen cabinets. From light blue-gray hues to deep navy, every shade looks sophisticated when paired with white subway tiles, marble countertops and brass hardware.

The color palette can work in virtually any space. Whether you live in a modern farmhouse or bohemian abode, simply choose your accessories wisely – a farmhouse sink and copper mixer for the country girl at heart or a woven rug and open wood shelving for a more laid back look.

The best paint colors for blue kitchen cabinets:

  • Blue-gray color (think Cape Cod): Benjamin Moore Van Courtland Blue
  • Medium blue (reminiscent of the ocean): Stiffkey Blue by Farrow & Blue
  • Dark blue: Cyberspace by Sherwin Williams color matched to Kelly Moore Dura Poxy

Top 5 Rosé Wines

Have you been swept up by the rosé revolution? Chances are you have probably seen the hashtag #roséallday pop up across social media or noticed pale pink glasses dotting the tables of your favorite restaurant patio. But you may not know what it is, why it has become so popular or the top 5 rosé wines to drink. I’m here to help!

While rosé wine has been around since the Ancient Greeks, what we think of today as rosé wine owes its roots to France and specifically Provence for inspiring the wines we enjoy today.

In the US, the popularity of the super sweet White Zinfandel ruined rosé’s reputation for a generation, but a new crop of really crisp, dry options with flavors like strawberry, watermelon, cherry, orange peel, and peach have made rosé the fastest growing wine category in the world.

How to choose? Well, like most things wine, there is no right answer. But if my description above sounded good to you then I would start with one of my favorites listed below.

Top 5 Rosé Wines:

1. Fragile by Orin Swift ($18)

2. Domaine de Fontsainte Corbieres Gris de Gris ($16)

3. Red Car Rosé of Pinot Noir ($28)

4. Chateau Miraval Rosé ($22)

5. Commanderie de la Bargemone Coteaux d’Aix en Provence Rosé ($16)

If in doubt, ask your favorite wine shop for a dry, Provençal style of rosé. If you are browsing the aisle solo, look for a pale pink over a darker salmon color. I tend to find that the darker the juice the sweeter the style which is not my preferred flavor profile.

Once you have made your choice, all you need is a cute rosé tote to carry it in and you will be the hit of your next summer get together.
