Nashville –

Michael and I hit the road this past weekend and headed down south to Nashville to see one of my best friends from college, Rachel, and her beautiful family! Even though the drive lasted seven hours we passed the time by listening to Girl on The Train and enjoying the lush spring scenery through Kentucky. We had an action-packed weekend and really fell in love with the city – thanks to our fabulous hosts!

The highlights…

The Company – Even though we talk frequently, I hadn’t seen Rachel or her husband, Bryan, since our wedding almost a year and had never met her youngest son, Jude. In addition to Jude, Rachel and Bryan have a rambunctious three year old, George, who kept Michael and I entertained all weekend and expertly added a third syllable to my name – Court-tay-nee. They welcomed us into their gorgeous home located in the Green Hills neighborhood of Nashville – a short drive from downtown – and made our stay more than enjoyable with a coffee bar, fresh flowers, magazines and snacks all laid out in our room. We laughed, caught up and just enjoyed “being together.”

The City – This was only my second-time to the music city and Michael’s first so we made sure to see as much as possible minus any honky-tonks. We attended a wine-tasting hosted by Bryan’s company at a rooftop downtown overlooking the city skyline,  ran in Percy Warner Park and along Belle Meade Boulevard where I basically drooled at all the stately Southern mansions, shopped and walked around 12 South (my favorite neighborhood by far with the cutest general store, White’s Mercantile, and denim-boutique Imogene + Willie) and Marathon Village, checked out Hatch Show Print and had fabulous meals – all while basking in the warm sun.

The Food  We ate so.much.good.food including a pre-birthday dinner for Michael at Husk, a “sugar board” at Sinema (check out our #sinemaselfie below and make sure to get the Basil Instinct cocktail), brunch at Pinewood Social (can you please come to Chicago?), hot chicken at Hattie B’s, BBQ for Edley’s and more desserts than I have had in months – sno-cones from Retro Sno, popsicles from Las Paletas, marshmallows from The Bang Candy Company and ice cream cones from Bobbie’s Dairy Dip.

We will definitely be planning another trip back soon – there is still so much to see!

Tutti Frutti –

With summer pool parties and barbecues on my mind, I can’t help but think of pineapples and watermelons and lemons, oh my!  And even though these may taste super delicious, they look even better on these fun, cheeky items below.

For home, I am dying over the Pineapple Wallpaper that would look amazing in a powder room, but will probably invest in the Ceramic Pineapple or “Lemons” Print first.

For the pool or beach, I would wear the Pineapple Coverup with my Pineapple Swim Suit all while drinking a cocktail filled with pineapple-shaped ice ????

Which is your favorite?

Pineapple Wallpaper, Ceramic Pineapple, Pineapple Brass Door Knocker, Pineapple Coverup,  Pineapple Ice Tray, Pineapple Swim Suit, Gold Pineapple Stud Earrings, Watermelon Coin Purse, Watermelon Espadrilles, Lemon Pillow, Watermelon Cooler Bag, Watermelon Clutch, “Lemons” Print

Scalloped Dress

I’m not sure which element of this dress I love best – the scalloped hem, the bright coral hue, or the back detail that shows a hint of skin. Either way, it was the perfect option for Easter Brunch overlooking Lake Michigan with the “Chicago branch” of my family.

Luckily my first Rocksbox arrived just in time for the weekend and the bold statement necklace I received paired perfectly with my spring dress. I’ll be sharing more about Rocksbox on Friday and even have a FREE gift to share with you!

Windowpane Pants

Whenever I meet with clients, I make sure my outfit is slightly elevated from my day-to-day wear. I aim to look polished, professional, and stylish since I work in a creative field.

These windowpane pants are a statement piece which makes them easy to dress around with this ivory blouse and muted, blush accessories. They also have a bit of stretch so I can still run around picking up invitations and supplies while remaining pulled together.

Easter Dresses under $100

Easter is coming up in a few weeks and for the third year in a row, Michael and I will be joining my sister-in-law’s family for Easter brunch at the Chicago Yacht Club. Since we don’t normally travel for this holiday, we’re thankful to be welcomed into their extended family for the holiday and equally happy to dine on delicious food.

Even though the weather doesn’t always cooperate, I always wear a dress. To me, it seems like the start to spring frock season — bold colors and floral prints encouraged. So, I’ve rounded up some budget-friendly, Easter-worthy dresses under $100! I think the Neon Floral Crop Top Floral Dress is highest on my list.

Baby Blues

Over the weekend, I visited St. Louis to celebrate our Martha Stewart Weddings magazine feature, meet my newest niece and spend time with my family. It was a perfectly relaxing weekend with the exception of my 10-mile training run which didn’t feel too great.

By the time Sunday rolled around, the sun had driedup all of the puddles and I felt confident enough to wear my new suede heels which I had been saving for spring weather. I paired them with my trusty trench, white pants and this new baby blue sweater that I found for under $20!

Baby Blue Sweater, White Pants, Trench Coat, Nude Heels, Necklace, Tortoise Sunglasses, Rose Gold Pave Studs, Gold Watch, MAC Lipstick, OPI Nail Polish

Pleated Maxi Dress

It may be obvious because of my invitation studio, but I am a sucker for weddings. And, especially, dressing up for weddings. Everyone dusts off their fancy duds and kicks back for a fun-filled night of dinner and dancing.

Because this was the first wedding that I actually attended on the beach it was the perfect scenario for a maxi dress. Easy, breezy and perfect for dancing, this pleated maxi dress was also easy on my wallet at only $79.50!

My husband, Michael, played quite the dapper date in his Ludlow suit, Chambray Tie and Pocket Square from Tie Bar.

Marco Island

It’s no secret that Chicago winters are cold. Like, three plus months of soup, sweats and lots of blankets cold. So when one of my best girl friends decided upon an early spring destination wedding, I was ecstatic to leave it all behind for fresh seafood, bathing suits and SUN!

Marco Island is located on the Gulf of Mexico in Southwest Florida and was the perfect spot for the beach wedding Michael and I attended over the weekend. The white sandy beaches were ideal for sunbathing, relaxing and even running. Oh, and the super attentive beach staff at Marco Beach Ocean Resort brought me Miami Vice’s (a mix of Pina Colada and Strawberry Daquiri for anyone unfamiliar) to keep me hydrated for all the fun ahead.

We kicked the festivities off with a welcome party at a cute waterfront restaurant at the marina. Baskets of wayfarer sunglasses branded with the wedding hashtag awaited us as we caught up with new and old friends and toasted the bride and groom.

Saturday morning, I had to fit in a short training run for an upcoming half marathon. Being able to run directly on the beach against the soundtrack of waves crashing and surrounded by so many cool sea shells was quite the upgrade from the treadmill I have been chained to at home.

The sunset ceremony right on the beach was a beautiful backdrop for the “I do’s” and the veranda overlooking the water was the ideal spot for our al fresco dinner. We danced the night away to a really fun band and I might have helped myself to the photo booth one too many times.

Floral Printed Shorts

Over the weekend, Michael and I headed to Florida to celebrate my good friends Mollie and Kyle’s wedding in Marco Island, Florida. The weather and wedding were both perfect and it was a much-needed, mid-winter getaway.

With temperatures reaching 80 degrees each day, I was in heaven in dresses, swimsuits and shorts – including these new floral printed pull-on shorts. I dressed them up with a lightweight white sweater, a statement necklace, wedges and my new favorite trend in accessories – ear jackets!

Floral printed shorts, Sheer yoke topped white sweater, Gold Aviators, Pave Halo Ear Jackets, Circle Necklace, Gold Watch, Tan Wedge (very similar here), Straw Clutch (old from J. Crew Factory but here’s another straw clutch that’s cute!)
