I just started reading The Woman I Wanted to Be by Diane Von Furstenberg and I am hooked. Even though I am only 50 pages in, I am already astonished by the wealth of knowledge and inspiration she provides to women.
Sheepishly, I admit that I watched House of DVF and although the drama between the contestants was slightly entertaining; DVF was the real one to watch. She runs her company with such poise and has created a brand that is 100% her which is something I think most small business owners aspire to attain.
In the first chapter “Roots”, DVF discusses how her mother taught her to “transform what’s bad into something good” and says, “How could you possibly better yourself if you didn’t face your challenges up front or if you laid your problems off on someone or something else and didn’t learn from them? I offer that lesson often in my talks to young women. ‘Don’t blame your parents, don’t blame your boyfriend, don’t blame the weather. Accept the reality, embrace the challenge, and deal with it. Be in charge of your own life. Turn negatives into positives and be proud to be a woman.’”
Wow, what a statement and this was in the first chapter! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the book holds. I’d love to hear if you are a DVF fan or read this book too?!
